Banana Pear Oatmeal Cookies - plant based, gluten free, no added sugar

These banana pear oatmeal cookies are real crowd pleasers. I first made them when trying to wean from toddler from breastfeeding. I wanted to make a few new special foods to lure him away from me and toward other healthy food. It turned out that he wanted nothing to do with the cookies (he only wanted mommy’s milk), BUT everyone else in my family DEVOURED them. My husband continues to request them to bring to work. Luckily, they are a pretty low lift recipe and you likely have the 5 ingredients already.

I slathered on some peanut butter for extra flavor and to add some more healthy fats and protein. These are perfect for a snack and to throw into your little one’s lunch bag - they contain healthy fats, fiber, and plant based protein. They are plant based, gluten free, added sugar free, refined sugar free, and totally delicious.

All the ingredients I used were zero waste - they came in plastic free packaging thanks to my “shopping naked” strategies. The bananas and pears were loose from the produce section of my local healthfood store, the oats and almond butter were from Sun & Swell (an online store with pantry staples that come in compostable packaging) and the cinnamon was from Simply Organic.

BANANA PEAR OATMEAL COOKIES

makes about 10-15 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana

  • !/2 cup mashed pear (from about 2/3rds of a medium sized pear)

  • 1.5 cups oats

  • 3 tbsp almond butter

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • coconut oil, for baking

Directions

  1. Mash the banana and pear with a fork in a mixing bowl until smooth with just a few small chunks.

  2. Add the oats, almond butter, cinnamon to the bowl and mix until combined. (If the batter seems a bit too liquidy, add more oats).

  3. Grease a baking sheet with coconut oil.

  4. Scoop the cookie batter onto the baking sheet.

  5. Bake in a 375F oven for about 15-20 minutes (cook for shorter if you like a chewier cookie and longer if you like a crispy cookie).

  6. When the cookies are done and have reached your desired consistency, remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. (This is hard because they smell and look so good).

  7. Take a deep breath and enjoy. Top with nut butter for something extra!
