Guide to St. Mortiz
While traveling to Lake Como, Rob and I took a day trip to St. Moritz and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The two-hour ride through Italy and Switzerland was beautiful (and super windy!) and we arrived early enough to enjoy a full, packed day. Here are our top suggestions to have the best day in St. Moritz in the summertime.
Where to Eat:
- Badrutt’s Palace Hotel Afternoon Tea: This is an ABSOLUTE MUST. The freshly baked scones were heaven along with everything else- the tiny sandwiches and desserts. We ate outside on the veranda overlooking Lake St. Mortiz. The view was spectacular, the service was hands-on, and it made for the most relaxing afternoon. And, how can I forget the actual tea? There were so many choices to satisfy whatever mood you’re in.
- Hauser: Rob and I stopped here for a snack and enjoyed the best French fries we’ve ever had. We continue to talk about them! I’m sure the other food is great (come hungry- the portions are huge and the food looked quite heavy), but we only had the fries. The restaurant is also committed to sustainable practices- no plastic straws, and they’re mindful of food waste and water and energy usage.
- quattro BAR: We stopped here for a coffee on our way down from the top of Piz Nair mountain (see below!).
What To Do:
- Lake St. Moritz: Take a walk around this gorgeous and serene lake. There are benches along the path so you can take a seat, relax, and take in the breathtaking scenery.
- Cable Car up Piz Nair: The Piz Nair mountain overlooks all of St. Mortiz. The views are breathtaking and the ride up is fun (if you’re not afraid of heights!). We stopped at the quattro BAR at the halfway point on the way down for some coffees and soaked up the sun on the lounge chairs outside. (FYI- even if it’s not super warm, you can still get a sun burn!)
- Segantini Museum: We didn’t have time to make it here, but I wish we did. It includes paintings from Giovanni Segantini and Andy Warhol.
- Shopping: If you’re looking for luxury shopping, you’ll find yourself right at home here. Rob and I stuck to window shopping on this trip J.
We spent less than 10 hours in St. Mortiz, so we couldn’t take advantage of all it had to offer. Regardless, it was a magical day and I couldn’t recommend traveling there more. Next time, I want to stay for longer. Here’s another great website with information on St. Mortiz.
